Goblets of Fire

A toast to the fires that embrace the work and leave their imprint for us to gaze upon.

I find it ironic how throughout the creation process of a piece, it is me who decides what shape and form it will take, how it will function, how the surface will be defined, whether it will have any kind of texture, and if so what kind, and then after all of that - I turn it over to the fires to leave their final mark. And so, as much as I can try, in the end each piece is a mystery until it goes through its transformation and emerges on the other side.

A number of things came together for me in these goblets. The chatter that just happened to be angled and then also highlighted by the red, orange and yellows of the glaze, then the fading colour to a burnt brown and turning to green - makes me think of a wildfire sweeping through a forest under heavy skies.
